How to Choose an Online Chess Coach for Your Child
· 1 min read · The Mind Chess Academy
Online chess coaching has grown quickly, and the quality varies. These are the questions that help parents tell a good coach from an average one.
1. Is there a clear curriculum?
Good coaching follows levels, from the basics to tactics, strategy and endgames. Ask to see the path and how your child moves from one level to the next.
2. How big are the batches?
In a crowded class, a child can go unnoticed. Small batches of four to six let the coach see every child's moves and mistakes.
3. What are the coaches' credentials?
A rating tells you the coach plays and understands competitive chess. FIDE-rated coaches are a good sign, but also ask how they teach children.
4. Are classes recorded?
Recordings let children revise and let parents see exactly what is being taught.
5. Can you try before you commit?
A free demo class shows the teaching style and how your child reacts, before you pay anything.
You can see how The Mind Chess Academy answers each of these on our programs page, or book a free demo.
